Here
are the results from the questions that we asked in our survey
The first question that we asked our target audience was their gender.
From the results shown in the image above, 12 out of the 17 people that we
asked to take part in our survey were female, with only five male participants.
One
of the first questions that we asked was the participants' age. The results
show that most people that took part in our survey were between the ages of
15-18, with 6 people being between the ages of 19-21 and only 1 person
being between the ages of 22-25. This suggests that our survey appealed to more
people between the ages of 15-18, and narrows down our target audience to a
much more specific age group.
To
find out how popular the sub genre 'Teen Drama' was with our target audience,
we asked how often people watched Teen Drama films. The majority of the results
show that 10 out of the 17 people that we asked occasionally watch Teen Drama
films, 6 participants rarely watch Teen Drama films and only one participant
watches Teen Drama films all the time. However the results also show that no
one selected the 'Never' option when asked how often do they watch teen drama
films, suggesting that isn't a fear of the sub-genre 'dying out' or becoming
completely ignored by the audience. From these results, we aim to change
our target audience from watching Teen Drama films occasionally, to watching
Teen Drama films all the time.
The results show that 3 participants
preferred 'Americanised' Teen Drama films whereas 3 other participants
preferred both 'Americanised' and gritty British Teen Drama films. Although we
already made the decision to make a gritty, British Teen Drama film, we wanted
to find out what was more popular with our target audience, and to consider
adopting any 'Americanised' elements into our media product to please our
target audience.
We asked our participants how they would
expect male and female characters to be presented in Teen Drama films, as extra
research that could help contribute to the character profiles that we created
for the characters starring in our film trailer. The majority of our
participants said that they expect male characters to be presented as strong,
dominant figures that are popular or are the leader of a particular social
group, with a violent tendency. The majority of our participants said that they
expect female characters to be presented as pretty and popular (taking on the
'Queen Bee' role) Various participants suggested that most female characters
seem strong willed and who like to be in control, or are submissive to male
roles and are easily led. Our participants also said that the female characters
usually lust or are in love with the popular, lead male character/s.
In terms of teen issues, we asked our
participants what teen issues or elements would they expect to find in a Teen
Drama film. Results included exploring gang cultures, relationship
dramas/scenarios, drug addictions, knife crime, teenage pregnancy, violence and
mental health issues.
We also asked our participants what
locations they would expect to have been used when making a Teen Drama film, to
provide us with a various selection of settings/locations that we may had or
hadn't thought of to shoot parts of our film trailer. The most common locations
suggested were house parties or 'raves', night clubs and bars, teenage
'hangouts' , character homes and schools.
To get an idea of what kind of music would
go down well with our target audience, we asked our participants what kind of
music they would expect to hear in a teen drama film. The majority of rhe
results state that current, popular chart music, rap and dubstep music would be
popular among teenage audiences.
The final question that we asked our
participants was what elements of Teen Drama would they improve on. The results
included exploring different story lines and making them seem more realistic to
the audience, and using more varied character types in Teen Drama. We chose to
ask the participants this question so that we successfully meet the needs of
our target audience. The plot summary that we have done for our film trailer,
we feel is a lot less stereotypical, and contains less themes that would be
expected in a Teen Drama (such as teenage pregnancy and gang violence). We also
hope and aim to make our film trailer appear relate able and less 'dressed-up'
to our target audience.

This is excellent! I'm impressed with how you have taken your initial research and developed it with your own media product in mind. You have thought carefully about the certification of your own film. Great stuff!
